Following the formation of the new state government, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has intensified reviews of major infrastructure projects. On Wednesday, he inspected the ongoing construction of the Danapur-Bihta elevated corridor and the Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga bridge, directing officials to expedite work on both projects.
The Chief Minister said the completion of the elevated corridor will significantly ease traffic between Bihta and Koilwar, providing Patna with a direct link to NH-922 and the Koilwar bridge. The project will also offer crucial connectivity to the upcoming Bihta International Airport. He added that millions of residents stand to benefit once the corridor becomes operational.
Later, Nitish Kumar reviewed the progress of the Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga bridge, noting that the six-lane structure will provide an important alternative route and strengthen transport links between North and South Bihar. The state government, he said, is closely monitoring the pace of all major development works and issuing necessary directives from time to time.
The Danapur-Bihta elevated corridor, being built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is approximately 24 km long and is expected to be completed next year. Constructed at Rs 3,147 crore, the corridor will reduce the Patna-Bihta travel time from nearly two hours to just 20-25 minutes, offering major relief from traffic congestion.
The Sherpur-Dighwara Ganga bridge, also an NHAI project, is estimated to cost Rs 3,200 crore. Including its approach roads, the bridge spans 14 km and will function as part of Patna’s ring road network, emerging as a vital link for inter-regional connectivity in Bihar.
