All District Transport Officers (DTOs) in Bihar have been given the task of clearing all pending cases related to driving licences (DL) and vehicle registration certificates (RC) by January 31. They have been instructed to resolve cases pending for more than six months and one year on a priority basis. State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan gave these instructions on Tuesday during a departmental review meeting held via video conferencing with the DTOs of all districts. In addition to DL-RC, permits, hit-and-run and non-hit-and-run claims, motor driving training schools, and bus stops were also reviewed in the meeting.

Strict Action Against Dealers For Pending Registrations

During the meeting, it was reported by the districts that many cases related to vehicle registration are pending at the dealer or agency level. In response, the Transport Commissioner directed that meetings be held with the concerned agencies to ensure immediate resolution of the pending cases. He warned that if compliance is not met within the specified timeframe, action will be taken to cancel the login ID of the concerned dealer or showroom. He stated that unregistered vehicles should not be on the roads.

Zero Tolerance Policy: Daily Helmet And Seatbelt Checks

The Transport Commissioner stated that the state government has a zero-tolerance policy regarding not wearing helmets and seatbelts, and therefore, intensive daily campaigns should be conducted to take necessary legal action against those who violate the rule. He said that helmets and seatbelts are life-savers, reducing serious injuries in the event of a road accident and saving people's lives.

Road Safety Measures: Signage And Mirrors On Sharp Turns

The State Transport Commissioner instructed that for road safety, mirrors and signage should be installed at sharp turns, blind spots, curves, and other such locations. The probability of accidents is higher at T-points and curved sections on major highways. Instructions were given to promptly complete the work of installing mirrors and signage in such places, and applying reflective tape on intersections and dividers. Additionally, emphasis was placed on identifying and rectifying blind spots.
