Bihar Govt Formation LIVE: Nitish Kumar Submits Resignation To Governor; RJD's Tejashwi Yadav Elected As LoP

With the new government likely to take shape within a few days and the oath ceremony of the New Chief Minister of Bihar likely to take place on November 20, Nitish Kumar has submitted his resignation to the Governor. 

Tejashwi Yadav, the RJD MLA from Raghopur, has been elected as the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly, according to ANI.

The Bihar Legislative Assembly election has been extremely disappointing for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), with the party reduced to just 25 seats. While RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav managed to save his own Raghopur seat, several stalwarts of his party were defeated.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government in Bihar is likely to take place in Patna on November 20, official sources said on Monday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top leaders of the NDA, including union ministers, are expected to take part in the oath-taking event, they said. The sources said Kumar is likely to submit his resignation to the Governor as head of the outgoing government on November 19.

Earlier in the day, Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal told reporters that the newly elected legislators will meet on Tuesday to elect their legislature party leader. "Most likely, the oath-taking ceremony of the new government will take place either on November 20 or November 21," he said. Preparations are underway at Patna's Gandhi Maidan for the swearing-in event.

RJD leader Misa Bharti, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, arrive at the latter's residence in Patna. A meeting of party leaders is being held here. RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and party leader Rabri Devi are also present in the meeting.

Patna: RJD MLA Akhtarul Islam Shahin says, “A day before the election, Rs 10,000 was deposited into the accounts of crores of people… This is theft, rigging, and an attempt to buy votes with money.”

On Rohini Acharya's departure from the Lalu Prasad Yadav family, independent MP Pappu Yadav said, "Some 'Jaichands' have created this situation. They should not be spared. I request Tejashwi ji to call Rohini and his brother and hug them both. I want the family to remain united, no matter what. I also want Tej Pratap Yadav to forget the past."

BJP leader Nitin Nabin on Monday said that the process of forming the new government in Bihar will begin on Tuesday, following the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) resounding victory in the Assembly Elections 2025, clarifying that although November 19-20 is being considered for the oath-taking ceremony, the final date has not yet been confirmed.

"The process for forming a new government will begin tomorrow. So far, the expected date (of the oath ceremony) is November 19-20. But the final date is yet to be decided," he told ANI.

JDU leader Ashok Choudhary clarified that there was no vacancy for the CM's post in Bihar.

"The cabinet has been dissolved today, a new cabinet will be formed soon. We have been saying from day one that there is no vacancy for the Chief Minister's post," he said

On the statement of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav's daughter Rohini Acharya, he said, "It is sad, it is painful when someone's family breaks apart."

Nitish Kumar was “authorised” to recommend dissolution of the assembly on Monday. A resolution to this effect was unanimously passed in the cabinet meeting, which lasted for 10 minutes, news agency PTI reported.

The NDA managed to get more than 200 seats in the 243-member House. The BJP won the maximum number of 89 seats, followed by the JD(U)'s tally of 85.

On Moday, the last cabinet meeting of the outgoing NDA government in Bihar on Monday "authorised" Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to recommend dissolution of the assembly, news agency PTI reported.

“The CM met Governor Arif Mohammad Khan soon after the meeting to apprise him about the decision of the cabinet. On November 19, Kumar will submit his resignation to the Governor as head of the outgoing government,” one of the sources said.

"...If votes are cast through ballots, then the results will be completely different. But, I know, re-elections will never happen...EC, BJP, and their teams will now be preparing for the next election...Such a govt will benefit only Adani, Ambani...There should be accountability over election spending," Businessman Robert Vadra told ANI on Bihar elections.

The swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Bihar.

DU leader Vijay Kumar Chaudhary says, "Cabinet meeting was held today. The Cabinet has recommended that the current Assembly be dissolved with effect from 19th November. This has just been conveyed to the Governor through the Chief Minister."

"The second proposal was that throughout the tenure of the current government, all the officials and employees of Bihar have given positive cooperation, successfully followed and implemented the government's policies and programs. For this, the service of all the officials and employees of Bihar, including the Chief Secretary, has been commended. And the third proposal was that in the recently concluded general elections, the NDA, under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, achieved such tremendous success and achieved a resounding majority. The Council of Ministers congratulated the Chief Minister and expressed gratitude for the fact that under his leadership, the NDA has reached the pinnacle of its success."

"The swearing-in ceremony will be held on the November 20, the Prime Minister will also go, we people will also go. The names of those who are becoming ministers are coming forward that there will be 35-36, out of which 16 from BJP, 14-15 from JDU, 3 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), and 1-1 from Hindustan Awam Morcha (S) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha, so many things are being seen in the media, nothing authentic has been told to us... We thank the people of Bihar for this victory... We have achieved this success because of the works done by Nitish Kumar for women and the disabled," Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi told reporters on Monday.
