Ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, the Nitish Kumar government has rolled out a series of welfare measures for Vikas Mitras and Shiksha Sevaks working under various state schemes.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, in a post on social media platform X on Friday, announced that every Vikas Mitra working under the Bihar Mahadalit Vikas Mission will receive a one-time grant of Rs 25,000 to purchase a tablet. He said the move would help them in maintaining beneficiary data and ensuring smoother delivery of welfare schemes to the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribe communities.

The CM further announced an increase in the allowances of Vikas Mitras, with the transport allowance raised from Rs 1,900 to Rs 2,500 per month, and the stationery allowance hiked from Rs 900 to Rs 1,500 per month. “Following the principle of development with justice, our government is committed to the upliftment of deprived sections of society. Vikas Mitras play an important role in this,” Nitish wrote in his post.
In addition, the government has sanctioned Rs 10,000 each for Shiksha Sevaks, including those at Talimi Markaz centres, to purchase smartphones. They assist in extending educational benefits to children from Mahadalit, Dalit, minority, and extremely backward class families, besides contributing to women’s literacy drives under the Akshar Aanchal Yojana.

The amount allocated for teaching materials at each centre has also been increased from Rs 3,405 to Rs 6,000 per year. The CM said these decisions would motivate both Vikas Mitras and Shiksha Sevaks to carry out their responsibilities with greater enthusiasm.
