After a gap of 23 years, contractual (niyojit) teachers in the district will finally receive promotions. The decision will benefit teachers appointed under Panchayat, Block, Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council and District Council units. To be eligible, teachers must have completed a minimum of 12 years of service, after which they will be promoted to the next pay scale.

In this regard, District Programme Officer (Establishment) Indra Kumar Karn has issued a letter to the member secretaries of all appointment units, directing them to submit a list of eligible teachers to the Block Education Officer (BEO) within a fortnight.

The decision by the District Education Department has been welcomed by teachers’ organisations. Expressing happiness over the move were Bihar State Primary Teachers’ Association District President Jitendra Kumar Yadav, along with Shrikant Rai, Rajesh Kumar Rai, Umashankar Prasad and Lakhanlal Nishad, Divisional Organisation In-charge of the Parivartankari Prarambhik Shikshak Sangh. Other teachers, including Sanjeev Kumar, Jitlal Ram, Jaynarayan Ram, Santosh Yadav, Jitan Sahni and Sanjay Kumar, also hailed the decision.

Meanwhile, in view of the smooth, peaceful and malpractice-free conduct of the Bihar School Examination Board’s Intermediate and Matriculation examinations scheduled in February, the leave of teachers and non-teaching staff of government schools has been cancelled.

District Education Officer Vidyanand Thakur has issued an order stating that teachers and staff will only be allowed government-declared holidays during the examination period. No leave will be approved at the level of headmasters, Block Education Officers or DPOs. In exceptional cases, leave will be granted only on the recommendation of a committee constituted at the District Education Office.

The Intermediate examination will commence on February 2, while the Matriculation examination is scheduled to begin on February 17.
