The expansion of the Sonpur planning area is set to become a reality following a meeting of the Sonpur Planning Area Authority, chaired by District Magistrate Aman Sameer on Monday. The meeting resulted in the approval of the area’s expansion, marking a significant step toward the region’s development.
Previously covering 256 square kilometers, the Sonpur planning area will now extend to 600 square kilometers. This expansion will provide a major boost to local development and growth.
Four panchayats from Sonpur, Dighwara, Dariyapur, Parsa, and Gadkha blocks have been incorporated into the expanded area. Additionally, this development will broaden the scope of the area's planning and ongoing projects.
District Magistrate Sameer emphasised that the expanded planning area would not only foster local development but also create new employment opportunities and enhance public welfare efforts. He highlighted that public participation would be prioritised in the development of this area.
During the meeting, Creative Circle from Nagpur, the GIS-based master plan design company, presented the development outline for Sonpur over the next 20 years. The plan includes focused development in areas such as roads, water supply, education, healthcare, environmental protection, and the creation of green spaces.
A clear timeline for the plan's completion was set, with the draft expected by June 25 and the final draft due by July 10. Following this, the draft will be published, and the public will have 20 days to submit claims or objections. After addressing these objections, the master plan will be finalised.
The meeting also included key officials such as the Deputy Development Commissioner, Forest Division Officer Saran, Additional Collector, Executive Officer Nagar Panchayat Sonpur, and representatives from the consulting firm.
As part of the expanded plan, priority will be given to enhancing road networks, water supply, sewage systems, drainage, healthcare, and education. Additionally, the focus will be on regional environmental protection and the creation of green spaces, along with the introduction of smart city facilities to support the area’s overall development.
