Despite providing 125 units of free electricity per month to every family, the power companies are profitable. Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav said on Wednesday that under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a 24-hour quality power supply is being provided in Bihar. The increase in electricity demand is an indicator of investment and infrastructure development in the state.

Energy Secretary and Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Bihar State Power Holding Corporation, Manoj Kumar Singh, said that in the new year, the energy department is committed to providing affordable, accessible, and continuous electricity, so that the light of development can reach every home.

The Energy Secretary said that under the Mukhyamantri Vidyut Upbhokta Sahayata Yojana (Chief Minister Electricity Consumer Assistance Scheme), with all domestic consumers receiving up to 125 units of free electricity, the monthly electricity bill for approximately 90 per cent of domestic consumers is now zero.

Singh stated that for irrigation, all farmers and cold storage facilities are receiving electricity at 55 paise per unit, which has now made farming with electricity 10 times cheaper than with diesel. This has increased farmers' income and the availability of affordable agricultural products for the general public.

In the second phase of the Mukhyamantri Krishi Vidyut Sambandh Yojana (Chief Minister Agricultural Electricity Connection Scheme), dedicated to the goal of providing electricity to every farm, 80 per cent of the work has been completed ahead of schedule. He said that the electricity distribution companies are profitable.
