The Bihar Home Department on Tuesday presented a detailed account of the state’s achievements in strengthening law and order over the past year, highlighting a significant reduction in serious crimes due to strict policing, extensive use of technology, and sustained enforcement drives.

Addressing a press conference, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Arvind Chaudhary and Director General of Police Vinay Kumar said murder cases in the state declined by 7.72 per cent, dacoity by 24.87 per cent, and riot-related incidents by 17.97 per cent. The officials attributed the improvement in the crime situation to focused strategies and coordinated action by the police.

As part of the crackdown on serious offences, police arrested around 3.35 lakh accused involved in crimes such as dacoity, robbery, rape, and kidnapping during the year. To financially weaken organised crime and mafia networks, confiscation proceedings have been initiated against 70 criminals, while 1,419 others have been identified for similar action. Of these, 405 cases have already been sent to courts.

The Home Department also highlighted extensive preventive action under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). During the year, preventive measures were taken against about 12.5 lakh individuals under Section 126 of the BNSS to curb potential criminal activities.

Strict enforcement of the state’s alcohol prohibition policy continued, with police seizing over 16.79 lakh litres of country-made liquor and 16.51 lakh litres of foreign liquor. Regular raids and arrests were carried out against those involved in the illegal liquor trade.
