Bihar Releases Over Rs 8.5 Crore For Medical Students’ Stipends; PMCH Among Key Beneficiaries

The Bihar government has sanctioned Rs 8.5 crore for the stipends of medical college students, of which PMCH will receive Rs 6 crore. Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri has received Rs 2.09 crore. Additionally, funds have also been allocated for stipends to other paramedical institutions.

Bihar Releases Over Rs 8.5 Crore For Medical Students’ Stipends; PMCH Among Key Beneficiaries

The Bihar government has sanctioned more than Rs 8.5 crore for the stipends of students studying in the state's medical college hospitals and other health institutions. Patna Medical College Hospital, Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri, and other health institutions had requested the Health Department to release the stipend amount for the year 2025-26. 

Following the recommendations from the hospitals, the Health Department considered the matter in a high-level review meeting and has sanctioned the amount for the students' stipends, issuing the allocation order.

According to information from the Health Department, the largest sum has been released for the scholarships and stipends of postgraduate (PG) students at Patna Medical College Hospital in Patna. An allocation of Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for stipends at PMCH. 

For the stipends of students interning at Bhagwan Mahavir Institute of Medical Sciences, Pawapuri, Rs 2.09 crore have been released. In addition, allocations have been sanctioned for stipends: Rs 5,00,000 for the Paramedical Institute, Sadar Hospital, West Champaran; Rs 7,00,000 for the Paramedical Institute, Nungarh, Lakhisarai; Rs 22,00,000 for the Paramedical Institute, Sadar Hospital, Arwal; and Rs 15,00,000 for the BSc Nursing Institute, Chhapra. 

The Health Department has issued the order regarding the allocation approval after sanctioning the funds. The Health Department has sanctioned a budget of Rs 7 crore in the current financial year to continue the construction work of the Lohia Medical College Hospital, which is under construction in Supaul.

Additionally, an allocation of Rs 50 crore has been sanctioned for 2025-26 to redevelop PMCH on a turnkey basis into a 5,462-bed hospital, in addition to its admission capacity of 250 MBBS seats. The department has issued an order in this regard.
