In a bid to enhance sanitation facilities for women, the Urban Development and Housing Department of Bihar has announced the construction of 100 pink toilets at public places across 16 urban local bodies. The initiative, part of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, aims to ensure clean, safe, and accessible sanitation infrastructure for women and girls.

According to officials, pink toilets with a total of 70 seats will be constructed in 10 municipal bodies under the central scheme, while the remaining six municipal bodies will receive toilets with 30 seats each under a state-funded plan. A budgetary provision of Rs 2.50 crore has been made for the project.

These pink toilets will be equipped with essential facilities such as electricity, running water, cleanliness maintenance, sanitary pad availability, and dedicated disposal units. Female caretakers will be deployed at all locations, and helpline numbers will also be issued for assistance and maintenance support.

The cities where these pink toilets will be established include Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Bihar Sharif, Purnia, Sasaram, Sitamarhi, Rajgir, Bodh Gaya, Sultanganj, Bhabua, Barhiya, Buxar, Jale, Singhwada, Kamtaul-Ahiari, and Dev Nagar.

Urban Development Minister Jivesh Kumar said the initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening women-centric urban infrastructure and ensuring dignity and safety in public spaces.
