Government procurement of wheat in Bihar will begin from April 1, following directions from the central government. Wheat will be procured through Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Vyapar Mandals and the Food Corporation of India, officials said.

For the current rabi marketing season, the central government has fixed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for wheat at Rs 2,585 per quintal, which is Rs 160 higher than last year.

Only farmers registered on the Agriculture Department’s portal will be eligible to sell wheat at the MSP. The online registration process has already begun. Farmers who were registered on the portal last year will not be required to register again, officials of the Cooperative Department said.

However, farmers wishing to make corrections in land records or change nominated members can update their details through the portal. Registration and updates can be done online at dbtagriculture.bihar.gov.in.

After procurement, the payment amount will be credited directly to farmers’ bank accounts within 48 hours. Farmers can sell their produce at PACS at the panchayat level or at Vyapar Mandals at the block level, depending on their convenience.

The central government has not yet fixed Bihar’s wheat procurement target for this year. Last year, the state was given a target of procuring 5 lakh tonnes of wheat.

For further information related to wheat procurement, farmers have been advised to contact the Cooperative Department’s helpline at 0612-2200693.
