The Muzaffarpur Fertiliser Committee on Saturday reviewed the availability, storage, sale, stock position, monitoring and inspection of fertilisers in the district during a meeting chaired by District Magistrate Subrat Kumar Sen. The meeting also sought suggestions from MLAs and MLCs to ensure smooth fertiliser distribution to farmers during the ongoing Rabi crop season.

The District Agriculture Officer informed the committee that continuous inspections are being carried out under the directions of the District Magistrate. During the Rabi 2025 season so far, 286 raids have been conducted, during which irregularities were found at 33 fertiliser establishments. As a result, licences of 19 establishments were suspended, 11 licences were cancelled, and FIRs were lodged against three establishments.

To strengthen coordination, the District Magistrate directed that constituency-wise meetings be organised in collaboration with local MLAs in Gaighat, Minapur, Kanti, Paroo and Aurai assembly constituencies. These meetings will include wholesale and retail fertiliser vendors, block-level officials and agriculture department representatives to ensure an uninterrupted supply of fertilisers to farmers.

The District Agriculture Officer was also instructed to create a WhatsApp group comprising the Member of Parliament and all MLAs. Weekly updates on fertiliser availability, sales and remaining stock will be shared through the group to keep public representatives informed and enable quick resolution of issues.

Officials said there are currently 35 wholesale vendors and 1,442 retail vendors operating in the district. At present, total urea availability stands at 25,368.745 metric tonnes, of which 14,963.265 metric tonnes have been sold, and 10,405.480 metric tonnes remain in stock.

According to the District Agriculture Officer, the district has a total availability of 16,074.500 metric tonnes of DAP, with 11,505.700 metric tonnes sold and 4,568.800 metric tonnes in stock. NPK availability is 17,241.274 metric tonnes, of which 7,746.700 metric tonnes have been sold, and 9,494.574 metric tonnes are available. For MOP, total availability is 7,111.996 metric tonnes, with 4,917.951 metric tonnes sold and 2,194.045 metric tonnes remaining.

The administration has made it mandatory for all fertiliser outlets to prominently display stock boards, verify physical stock against display boards and PoS machines, and ensure the display of toll-free grievance numbers through flex banners. Dealers must provide proper receipts to farmers and sell fertilisers strictly at government-prescribed rates.

A complaint control room has been set up at the District Agriculture Officer’s office for resolving fertiliser-related issues. Farmers can register complaints by calling 9661697355.

The meeting was attended by MLC Dinesh Prasad Singh, MLA and former minister Engineer Ajit Kumar, MLA Ajay Kumar, MLA Komal Singh and other public representatives.
