Patna’s growing traffic woes have been attributed to multiple factors, prompting the city’s traffic police to launch a comprehensive campaign aimed at clearing encroachments and strengthening traffic management systems.

During the campaign, authorities identified 75 unauthorised garages affecting traffic flow, all of which have been served notices. In addition, 64 establishments, including schools, malls, banquet halls, and restaurants, were found to lack proper parking facilities, contributing to congestion. These establishments have been reported to the Patna Municipal Corporation for further action.

Traffic disruption due to damaged roads was also highlighted. A total of 40 locations with broken roads were reported to the relevant department for repairs. Similarly, nine sites where construction materials were obstructing roads have been cleared after notices were issued.

The traffic police have also focused on improving traffic signal management. While 28 major intersections already have functional signals installed with support from Patna Smart City, 24 new locations, including the GPO flyover and the Mithapur bypass, have been identified for additional signal installation, and proposals have been sent to the concerned department.

Strict action has been taken against violations in no-parking zones over the past 15 days. A total fine of Rs 4.5 lakh was imposed on 810 vehicles, and several vehicles were towed.

Key enforcement areas included:

-Patna Junction and surrounding areas: 416 vehicles, Rs 2.8 lakh fine, 30 towed

-Around Gandhi Maidan: 201 vehicles, Rs 1.5 lakh fine, 22 towed

-Boring Road and surrounding areas: 193 vehicles, Rs 9.85 lakh fine, 33 towed

Traffic police officials stated that these measures are part of a sustained effort to ease congestion, regulate parking, and improve road conditions, aiming to ensure smoother traffic flow across urban Patna.
