UP Fog Accidents: Amid a surge in road accidents due to the dense fog, the Meerut traffic police on Wednesday launched a vigilance and awareness campaign. The authority made the announcements at all toll plazas, checkpoints, and from highway patrol vehicles, providing information on how to drive safely in these conditions. The district authority has asked the traffic police to immediately remove any vehicles parked illegally on the highway. The traffic police further stated that the situation is likely to get worse in the upcoming days, further warning the commuters to avoid travelling in the morning hours to avoid inconveniences.

SP Traffic Raghavendra Mishra has ordered all police stations along the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Delhi-Dehradun, Meerut-Karnal, Meerut-Kotdwar, Meerut-Garh, and Meerut-Hapur roads to remove the obstructions. Apart from this, the officials have also been instructed to stay active even in the night hours to avoid the road accidents.

"We are conducting a campaign to install reflective tape on vehicles. Announcements are being made at every intersection and toll plaza on highways to alert people. Drivers are advised to drive with extreme caution and at reduced speeds in foggy conditions. Warning lights are being installed at illegal turns and accident-prone areas," Mishra was quoted as saying by Jagran.Com.

Meerut Traffic Police Advisory:

- Drive at a lower speed in the presence of the dense fog

- Drivers should use low beam headlights along with fog lamps

- Maintain a sufficient distance from the vehicle ahead to avoid a collision in case of sudden braking

- Avoid overtaking in foggy conditions

- Stay in your lane if the visibility is low

- Use the horn to warn the other vehicles, especially at turns

- Keep your parking lights on if you stop on the road

- Drive by following the white lines to avoid collision

- Keep your car windows clean

- Turn on the AC and direct the airflow towards the windshield to prevent fogging inside the car

- Avoid using mobile phones or engaging in conversations while driving
