The BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in Delhi on September 12 and 13. In view of the event, the Delhi government has announced holidays for schools and offices and imposed several restrictions across the capital. With restrictions also expected on September 11, many customers are now wondering whether bank branches will remain open.

Will Banks Be Closed in Delhi on September 11?

September 11 is not listed as a bank holiday in Delhi in the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar. So, banks in the capital are officially scheduled to remain open.

However, a nationwide bank strike called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) could affect banking services on the day. The unions are seeking several changes, including a five-day working week for banks and a review of performance-linked incentives.

The strike is expected to primarily affect public-sector banks. Private-sector banks are generally not expected to participate.

BRICS Summit May Affect Bank Visits

Although, September 11 is not a bank holiday in Delhi, residents may face traffic restrictions and diversions because of preparations for the BRICS Summit. The Delhi government has also announced the closure of government and private offices on the day.

Due to this, customers visiting bank branches may have to deal with traffic congestion, restricted routes or reduced staff availability.

Those planning to visit a public-sector bank on September 11 should check with their branch in advance.
