Stock Market Today Live Updates: Equity Indices Settle Sharply Lower; Sensex Falls 720 Points, Nifty Drops Below 25,050

Among Sectoral Indices, Auto, Financial Services, Bank, and Media fell the most

Starting flat in the morning, the broader indices witnessed a sharp decline during the session.

Top Losers: Hindustan Unilever, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, and TCS traded higher

After picking up the momentum in early trade, the domestic equity indices lost their path to settle significantly lower on Friday amid concern around geopolitical pressure and heavy selling. 

"Indian equity markets closed today on a cautious-to-negative note, reflecting sustained pressure from global uncertainty and domestic macro headwinds. Persistent concerns around global trade policies and protectionist signals continued to cloud investor confidence, particularly weighing on export-oriented sectors and index heavyweights," said  Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.

The equity indices fell significantly after mid-day trade amid profit booking. Heavyweights like Eternal, Adani Ports, and Indigo have witnessed huge selling after a decent rally in the previous session.  Sensex was trading at 81,581.32, down 726.05 points or 0.88 per cent, while Nifty50 was at 25,063. 10, down 227.55 or 0.90 per cent.

The equity indices--Sensex and Nifty50--erased their opening and early gains to trade in negative territory in the mid-day session amid profit booking and a cautious approach from investors. 

Gold Silver price jumped in the domestic futures market after a sharp decline in the previous session.  

The equity indices erased the little early gain amid investors' cautious approach. 

"Overall sentiment remains selective and range-bound, while mid- and small-cap stocks continue to show relative strength. Asian markets are mostly higher, and U.S. futures are marginally positive, offering supportive global cues. Meanwhile, easing pressure on the rupee has helped temper immediate imported inflation concerns, although the currency remains sensitive to FII flow dynamics," said Ponmudi R, CEO of Enrich Money.

The majority of sectoral indices turned flat in early trade as investors started looking for profit booking. 

The broader market is trading flat amid investors's concern and pfofit booking.

The domestic equity indices opened higher on Friday, continuing the previous day's gaining momentum amid sustained buying and firm global cues.
