The Indian cricket fraternity joined the nation in mourning the death of veteran actor Nana Patekar, who passed away at the age of 75 on Thursday.

Former India captain Virat Kohli paid an emotional tribute to the legendary actor, describing him as a “true legend of Indian cinema” and remembering the lasting impact of his work and legacy.

Patekar died at his residence in Goa after suffering a cardiac arrest. His death brought tributes from across Indian cinema, sports and public life, with several cricketers and former players taking to social media to remember the veteran actor.

Virat Kohli Pays Tribute To Nana Patekar

Kohli took to social media following the news of Patekar’s passing and highlighted the actor’s contribution to Indian cinema across his remarkable career.

“A true legend of Indian cinema. His work and legacy will live on for generations. Rest in peace, Nana Patekar ji. Om Shanti,” Kohli wrote.

The tribute from one of India's most prominent sporting figures reflected the widespread impact Patekar had beyond the world of films.

Actor Nana Patekar revealed previously he is a massive fan of Virat Kohli and used to skip meals whenever the star Indian batter got out early in a match.

His career spanned nearly five decades, with memorable performances across Hindi and Marathi cinema. He was also a three-time National Film Award winner and a recipient of the Padma Shri.

Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane Mourn Actor’s Death

Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan also paid tribute to Patekar, remembering him as a special talent whose contribution would continue to inspire future generations.

“Indian cinema has lost a truly special talent today. Nana Patekar saab, your work will continue to inspire generations. Om Shanti,” Dhawan posted on X.

Former India captain Ajinkya Rahane also expressed his grief, describing Patekar as a remarkable actor whose work had inspired and entertained generations.

“Nana Patekar ji was a truly remarkable actor whose work has inspired and entertained generations. Very sad to hear about his passing. May his soul rest in peace,” Rahane wrote.

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle was another prominent voice from the cricketing world to remember the actor. Bhogle described Patekar as a performer who brought intensity to both the screen and stage, calling his passing a “sad day.”

Nana Patekar Had A Strong Connection With Cricket

Patekar's relationship with sport also extended beyond his association with cricket fans and players. The actor had a lifelong passion for cricket and reportedly played the sport during his younger days, bowling off-spin at Mumbai's Shivaji Park.

He also had a strong interest in shooting and supported young Indian rifle shooters, including helping with training costs and interacting with athletes at shooting ranges.

Patekar made his acting debut with Gaman in 1978 before going on to deliver acclaimed performances in films including Parinda, Krantiveer, Prahaar, Ab Tak Chhappan and Natsamrat. His distinctive dialogue delivery and intense screen presence became defining features of his career.

Beyond cinema, Patekar was also known for his social work, particularly through the NAAM Foundation, which focused on supporting farmers and rural communities in Maharashtra.
