Cricketing legend from South Africa and IPL stalwart, AB de Villiers has made a confident prediction about the future of MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Expressing his happiness over seeing Dhoni's name on the Chennai Super Kings' retention list for the upcoming season, de Villiers shared his belief that Dhoni will continue to play a pivotal role in the tournament.
For the IPL 2024 season, MS Dhoni has been retained as the captain of CSK, a decision that was met with approval from fans and players alike. Despite releasing up to eight players, CSK maintained the core of their team, keeping key players such as Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ruturaj Gaikwad.
"I see that man's name on the retention list, and it just makes me happy. There was a lot of talk about it in the last season about whether it was going to be his last season. He is moving on to 2024 to play another IPL season. With him, he is always full of surprises. Maybe he has got three more to go, who knows? But It is just great to see his name on there," AB de Villiers said on his YouTube channel.

Dhoni's performance in the IPL 2023 season was commendable, considering he played with a knee niggle throughout the tournament. Despite the physical challenge, Dhoni led CSK to their sixth IPL title. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman scored 104 runs in 16 matches at an impressive strike rate of 184, showcasing his proficiency in the finisher's role.
de Villiers also talked about how franchises might look to go for Tamil Nadu's Shahrukh Khan in the auctions.
"He (Shahrukh Khan) is a strong player and is pretty consistent. I am very sure some of the teams will be very keen to get him over there. He hits the ball a long way as well. That's where CSK stand out. They are very good at picking up released players," de Villiers added.
Putting an end to speculations about his future, Dhoni declared his intention to return and play for CSK in the 2024 season as a gesture of gratitude to the fans who have steadfastly supported him.
