Test great Ajinkya Rahane has announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a career that saw him represent India across all three formats for more than a decade.
Rahane made his international debut during India’s tour of England in 2011. Over the years, he played 85 Tests, 90 ODIs and 20 T20Is, scoring a total of 8,414 international runs.
The Mumbai batter finished his career with 15 international centuries, including 12 in Test cricket and three in ODIs. He also captained India in 11 matches across formats, six Tests, three ODIs and two T20Is, and lost only one of those games.
His biggest achievement as captain came during the 2020-21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Rahane stepped in to lead the team after Virat Kohli returned home following the first Test in Adelaide.

India had suffered a crushing defeat after being bowled out for just 36 in the Adelaide Test, but Rahane answered with a brilliant century in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. He then guided an injury-hit Indian side to a memorable 2-1 series win, which ended with the famous victory at the Gabba.
Rahane's Test captaincy
Rahane captained India in six Test matches, winning four and drawing the other two. He retired without losing a single Test as captain and earned praise for his calm and composed leadership during one of India’s greatest overseas triumphs.
His last international match came against the West Indies in a Test in 2023, bringing the curtain down on a memorable journey in Indian cricket.
