BCCI played a massive role in changing the shape of cricket after they announced the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 with the shortest format of the game gaining huge engagement as compared to the other ones.

IPL has taken the world by storm as it has become a brand that is now remarkably popular across the globe.

According to a breathtaking report on moneycontrol.com, BCCI is planning to introduce a tier-2 cricket league in the T10 format the blueprint of which is already in the working.

The league is expected to receive incredible offers from the stakeholders who have been positive on the idea which could be on the upfront in September-October next year.

IPL has provided a monumental success to Indian cricket when it comes to the financial aspect and the apex body is now keen to come up with an experimentation in the T10 format of the game.

T10 format already has gained huge popularity as well as it is being played in UAE, USA, and other countries. With the T10 still kind of unexplored in India, BCCI is reportedly keen on giving it a go.

In one of the possible problems that could occur midway is the BCCI's contractual clause with the IPL's franchises as per which they have the right of first refusal on any new venture proposed with a resemblance to the IPL's business model.

The point of concern will be for the BCCI to plan whether to go ahead with the new T10 format or give the green light to the T20 version.

More things to look after before further advancement in the plan are also mentioned in the report and are as follows:

b) Should the league have an age cap for the players so that the new property doesn’t eat into the popularity of the IPL?

c) Should the franchises for this new league be sold through a separate tender process or can the existing IPL franchises be given the right of first refusal (there’s a mention of it in the existing contracts)?
