The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a major decision regarding Team India’s support staff following a high-level review meeting, with head physiotherapist Kamlesh Jain set to leave his role.
As per Sportstalk, the BCCI has terminated Jain’s contract, with the physiotherapist currently serving his notice period. He is expected to be replaced shortly as the board looks to revamp its medical support staff and strengthen the injury-management system surrounding the Indian cricket team.
The news comes at a time when recurring injuries have become a major concern for Indian cricket. Several players have struggled with fitness issues in recent months, putting increased focus on the medical and rehabilitation structure available to the national team.

BCCI Looks To Revamp Medical Support Staff
The decision regarding Jain is understood to be part of a wider attempt by the BCCI to review its medical setup.
The board has been facing questions over the management of player injuries, particularly with the Indian team playing a packed international schedule alongside the Indian Premier League. Rana was one of four players in India’s Afghanistan squad whose participation was subject to fitness.
The other three were Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar. However, Rana got ruled out later. A question mark now comes on how the fitness certificate was passed if they have not fully recovered.
During its recent review meeting, the BCCI discussed the growing number of injuries and the impact of the demanding cricket calendar on players.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia acknowledged that players have been playing too many matches and that the workload has taken a toll on their health.
Growing Concerns Around Centre Of Excellence
The situation has also highlighted concerns surrounding the BCCI's wider medical and sports science framework at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The BCCI has been attempting to strengthen its sports science and medical setup, with the key Head of Sports Science and Medicine position remaining vacant for an extended period after Nitin Patel's departure in March 2025.
The Centre of Excellence plays an important role in injury assessment, rehabilitation and determining when players are ready to return to competitive cricket.
With Jain now set to depart, the BCCI is expected to make further changes to its medical support structure in an attempt to improve injury prevention, rehabilitation and player workload management.
