England fast bowler Brydon Carse has not been charged after police closed their investigation into an alleged assault at a nightclub last month.

The development comes as a relief for Carse, who was dropped from England’s Test squad following the incident. The pacer was seen in handcuffs outside a nightclub in Derby last month.

Police Close Investigation

Carse was at the nightclub after celebrating Durham’s County Championship win over Derbyshire with his teammates. He was seen talking to Matthew Potts, while former England captain Ben Stokes was also pictured nearby.

Derbyshire Police said in a statement: “An investigation into reports of an assault in Derby city centre has been closed. Officers attended Molly Malone’s on Wardwick in Derby in the early hours of Sunday, August 23.”

“A man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly and was then de-arrested after his details were taken by officers,” the statement added.

The police later carried out further enquiries into the alleged assault. However, after identifying and speaking to the alleged victim, officers decided to take no further action.

Carse Still Faces Cricket Regulator Probe

While the police investigation has been closed, the matter has now been passed to the independent Cricket Regulator.

The regulator will decide whether Carse has a disciplinary case to answer over his behaviour.

Carse has continued to play for Durham since the incident. He helped the team win the Division Two title in the Rothesay County Championship but has not returned to England’s squads.

Dropped From England’s Teams

Carse was withdrawn from England’s squad before the second Test against Pakistan and was also left out of the final Test.

He remained available for the ongoing white-ball series against Sri Lanka but was not picked for that series either.

England white-ball coach Brendon McCullum had earlier spoken about the situation and said:

“I have spoken to Carsey a lot and it is the same message: you need to make good decisions off the field that allow you to be able to be the best version of yourself,” white-ball coach Brendon McCullum said earlier this week.
