Damien Martyn has shown some improvement in the hospital, as was informed by Adam Gilchrist on Thursday. He gave a huge update about the health of his closest friend, who is fighting for his life with meningitis.

Ex-Australian batter Damien Martyn is admitted to a hospital in an induced coma. He was rushed to the hospital last week.

In an interaction on FOX Cricket, Gilchrist revealed that in the last 24 hours, things have improved for him.

"He is still in the hospital. There will be more details coming out as they come to hand, but certainly in the last 24 hours, some positive signs are the indications coming out of the various tests he's having," Gilchrist was quoted as saying on FOX Cricket.

He expressed his gratitude for all the wishes that had come in and is hopeful that Martyn will recover soon.

"There has been so much interest and love. A fine player, terrific fella. I just hope he can continue his recovery," he said.

The whole cricketing world had poured in messages ever since the news of Damien Martyn's illness came.

Ex-India cricketers VVS Laxman and Ravichandran Ashwin had also sent their wishes. "Sending strength and prayers to my dear friend @damienmartyn and his family. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery. The entire cricket world stands with you, Matto, during this tough time," Laxman had written.

Ex-Australian cricketer Darren Lehmann and veteran broadcaster Jim Wilson had also sent messages and said, "Lots of love and prayers sending @damienmartyn way. Keep strong and fighting, legend. Love to the family," In an interaction on 6PR radio, an ex-Test bowler called this news "shocking". "We wish him all the best," he said.

Martyn was one of Australia's best batters as he had played 67 Test matches from 1992 to 2006 and had scored 4406 runs at a staggering average of 46.37. Post rejoining the Test team in 2000, he played a huge role in the Steve Waugh-led side and announced his retirement in the 2006 Ashes Test series.
