Australia won their record sixth ODI World Cup as they defeated the hosts India in the final to disappoint more than a billion Indian fans.

Aussie skipper Pat Cummins was handed over the trophy by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australia's deputy PM Richard Marley.

Australia's star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has opened up on an awkward moment that took place during the trophy presentation ceremony of the ODI World Cup 2023 after the final in Ahmedabad.

Cummins had to wait for a while to be joined by his teammates as PM Modi and Marley were congratulating the entire Australian team after their massive win.

Maxwell lauded Cummins for the calmness and respect he showed in that situation, adding that not everyone would have dealt with the incident as the star pacer did.

"It was quite funny watching the videos of the post-match presentation where he shook Modi’s hand and was stuck there on the podium," he said. "It felt like that lasted for about 10 minutes, him just standing there with the trophy waiting for the group to come on. But he actually dealt with it with class. He didn’t make a big song and dance about it, [he] just thought ‘you know what, I’ll wait here, be respectful.’ Not everyone would’ve dealt with that like he did."

Cummins was brilliant in the marquee tournament as he was brilliant enough making it a memorable tournament for his team despite losing the first two matches.

He was also effective in the final as he didn't concede a single boundary in his 10-over spell and took the vital wickets of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer.

Maxwell also had a remarkable ODI World Cup 2023 and played a vital role in helping his team in reaching the final as he played a match-winning knock against Afghanistan in the crucial clash.

He smashed a record-breaking double century but lauded Cummins for hanging around for 68 deliveries during his double century.

"That’s not the way Pat normally bats," Maxwell said. "He wants to play free-flowing, he wants to hit the ball, he’s got a great swing, and he’s able to do that at different times. But for him to put his ego aside and go ‘I’m going to stick this out’, I’ll forever be grateful for things he sacrificed during the tournament and everything he’s done for us as a playing group, and me personally as well."
