The cricketing governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed that The Oval in London will host the 2027 World Test Championship (WTC) Final. The title clash will be played from June 9 to June 13, 2027.

England was already given the hosting rights for the next three WTC Finals in 2027, 2029 and 2031. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has the responsibility of deciding which stadium will stage each final, and it has now chosen The Oval for the 2027 edition.

The Oval To Host The WTC Final For The Second Time

This will be the second time The Oval hosts the WTC Final. The famous London ground also staged the 2023 final, where Australia defeated India to become world champions.

The venue has a long history in Test cricket, and the 2027 final will carry even more importance as the cricket world celebrates 150 years of Test cricket.

WTC Points Table: Australia Lead The Race

With less than a year left before the final, the battle for the top two spots is becoming more exciting.

Australia are leading the standings with a points percentage of 87.50 after winning seven of their first eight Tests. Defending champions South Africa are second with 75.00, while New Zealand are close behind on 72.22.

Bangladesh have also entered the race after their impressive 2-0 Test series win over Pakistan earlier this year. They currently have a 58.33 points percentage.

India, who reached the first two WTC finals, are fifth with 48.15 after winning four of their nine matches. Sri Lanka are sixth on 41.67.

England, West Indies and Pakistan are further behind and will need a strong finish to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.

Big Test Series To Decide The Finalists

The next few months will play a major role in deciding which two teams reach the final.

West Indies begin the action with a two-Test home series against Pakistan from July 25. Australia will then host Bangladesh in another two-Test series starting August 13.

One of the biggest contests will be India’s two-Test tour of Sri Lanka from August 15, while England will host Pakistan in a three-Test series stretching across August and September.

These matches could have a huge impact on the WTC standings.

ICC Calls The WTC Final A Special Occasion

ICC General Manager of Events and Operations, Gaurav Saxena, said the World Test Championship Final has become one of the biggest events in international cricket.

He said the 2027 final would be even more special because it coincides with the 150th anniversary of Test cricket. Saxena also praised The Oval for its rich history and said the ICC looks forward to delivering another memorable final with the ECB.

ECB Excited To Welcome Fans Back To The Oval

ECB Managing Director for Competitions and Major Events, Neil Snowball, said the board is delighted that England and Wales will continue hosting the WTC Finals.

He added that the 2023 final at The Oval received an excellent response from both fans and broadcasters, and he expects the 2027 final to be another successful event.

Three Different Champions So Far

The World Test Championship has produced a new winner in every edition so far.

  • New Zealand won the first title in 2021.
  • Australia lifted the trophy in 2023.
  • South Africa became champions in 2025, defeating Australia in the final.
