IND vs PAK Controversy, ICC T20 World Cup 2026: The ongoing controversy around the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 has taken a new turn as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president, Aminul Islam Bulbul, has headed to Lahore for a crucial meeting with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in the presence of Mohsin Naqvi. The ICC director Imran Khwaja is also set to be present, whereas Mubashir Usmani, another ICC director, have been involved in back-channel discussions concerning the game ever since Naqvi cast doubt on Pakistan's participation.
The India vs Pakistan match is scheduled to be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on February 15. After Bangladesh's exclusion from the tournament, the Pakistani government announced the boycott of the match against India, escalating the issue that started with BCB's request to the ICC to shift their matches to Sri Lanka.
While Pakistan are scheduled to play their matches in Sri Lanka, the BCB refused to travel to India for their games citing security reasons. However, the International Cricket Council (ICC) rejected the proposal following an independent security assessment that found no specific threat. When the BCB stood firm on their stance, the ICC was left with little choice and ended up replacing them with Scotland in Group C.

Recent reports claimed the PCB approached the ICC to restart the talks as soon as the Sri Lanka Cricket Board wrote to the former to reconsider their decision of boycotting the match against India. It is to be noted that the ICC has already warned the PCB against going ahead with the 'boycott' plan, as the decision is likely to invite severe sanctions. ICC CEO, Sanjog Gupta, has also been to Colombo to meet with the President of the Sri Lankan board, Shammi Silva, who sent the email to Naqvi to play the India match in the World Cup.

The global body recently asked for an explanation from Pakistan on how the 'Force Majeure' clause can be invoked to justify the team's refusal to play the T20 World Cup match against India. The marquee tournament kicked off on February 7 with Pakistan beating the Netherlands in a low-scoring thriller. On the other hand, the defending champions India kicked off their campaign with an impressive win against the USA at the Wankhede Stadium.
