IND vs BAN HIGHLIGHTS, ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Gill's 101 Helps India Beat Bangladesh By 6 Wickets

India couldn't have expected a better start to their Champions Trophy campaign. On Thursday, they defeated Bangladesh by 6 wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. After reducing Bangladesh to 35 for 5, India seized the initiative, but Towhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali brought the Tigers back with a magnificent 154-run stand.

Hridoy played until the very end to score a hundred. Mohammed Shami was the star bowler for India after taking a five-wicket haul on his return to ICC events following the ODI World Cup final back in November 2019.

Taskin to Gill, one run to covers gets him to hundred! An innings of great restraint which came in clutch for his side. It comes off 125 deliveries with nine fours and two sixes. Just two runs from the over.

India need 40 runs in 60 balls with Shubman Gill and KL Rahul standing unbeaten at crease.

Shreyas Iyer's attempt to notch his second consecutive boundary against Mustafizur Rahman ultimately proved costly, as he miscued the shot and chipped the ball in the air. Iyer lost his wicket for 15 runs. Soon after Axar Patel also lost his wicket for 8 runs.

Shubman Gill slams his half-century in 69 balls and brings up his 16th ODI fifty.

Classy and consistent as ever! ✨

Virat Kohli's innings finally came to a close for a score of 22 as he attempted a cut shot, only to find Soumya Sarkar stationed at backward point, who took a straightforward catch off Rishad Hossain's delivery.

India captain Rohit Sharma's innings came to an end as he attempted to play an aggressive shot against Taskin Ahmed, ultimately falling for 41 runs off 36 deliveries.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Shubman look in fine touch having played gorgeous shots as the opening duo take India past 50 runs in 8 overs.

Harshit to bowl the final over. Swiped to deep midwicket by Hridoy and he will not take a single. Another dot ball as Hridoy gets an inside edge onto his leg trying to heave this on leg-side. Full outside off-stump and Hridoy swings and misses. Three dot balls in a row for Harshit. OUT! Bangladesh all out for 228. Hridoy gets a top edge and it is taken by Shami behind square-leg.

Shami bowls ot. He starts with a wide outside off-stump. A single for Hridoy at deep point and he gets to his century off 114-balls. He has battled through cramps and tough conditions to bring up a very special maiden ODI hundred and pulls his team out of deep trouble. OUT! Fifer for Shami as Taskin holes out at deep mid-wicket.

Taskin Ahmed c Shreyas Iyer b Mohammed Shami 3 (6b)

Shami again. Cut away by Hridoy for a single and he moves to 91. Out! Tanzim chops on trying to fetch this from wide outside off-stump. Taskin Ahmed gets an outside edge to third man and is off the mark with a single.

Tanzim Hasan Sakib b Mohammed Shami 0 (4b)

Shami again. FOUR! In the slot, heaved away by Hridoy to the midwicket boundary. Harshit Rana dives over the ball and that’s some more sloppy work by India in the field. OUT! India finally gets the breakthrough. Sliced high in the air and taken by Kohli at mid-on. Shami completes 200 wickets in ODIs and is the fastest Indian to get there. Rishad Hossain comes in next.

Hardik will continue. Short and swatted to deep square leg for a couple by Hridoy. Drifting down leg a Hridoy backs away outside leg-stump and Hardik follows him.

Kuldeep. Six! Hridoy slogs it away over cover. Nine runs from the over.

Jadeja returns. Concedes four singles. Bangladesh will eye more than 220 from here.

Bangladesh's innings has finally gained some traction, thanks to a crucial half-century partnership between Jaker Ali Anik and Towhid Hridoy. The duo has steadied the ship, helping their team recover from a precarious position and build some much-needed momentum.

Disaster struck again for India as Jaker Ali was given a second reprieve, this time courtesy of Hardik Pandya's misjudgment at mid-off off Kuldeep Yadav's delivery.

Axar Patel picks up a maiden over. His impressive figures now stand at 5-1-13-2 as the left-arm spinner continues to weave his magic on the field.

Axar Patel was on the cusp of achieving his first ODI hat-trick, but it slipped through India's fingers due to a crucial error by captain Rohit Sharma.

Half of Bangladesh's side is back to the pavilion. Amazing first over from Axar Patel as he took back-to-back wickets to remove Tanzid Hasan (25) and Mushfiqur Rahim (0). He missed out on his hat-trick as skipper Rohit Sharma dropped an easy catch at first slip. Bangladesh are five down now.

BAN Live Score: 36/5 (9)

Wicket! Bangladesh continue to lose wickets and Shami has been in remarkable touch early in this contest as he gets his second wicket. Another one edging it behind and this time Shubman Gill took a fine catch at first slip. Mehidy Hasan Miraz departs for 5 and Bangladesh are three down now. Just one run came off that over.

BAN Live Score: 27/3 (7)

Tanzid has looked promising in the middle and already has smashed three boundaries for his 17 runs. A good over for Bangladesh after chaos early in the innings as nine runs came off it.

BAN Live Score: 22/2 (5)

Wicket! There's another one and it's the big fish as skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto departs for 0. The first wicket of the match for Harshit Rana and Bangladesh are in huge trouble at the moment. He reached for it and hit that straight to Virat Kohli on the offside. One run came off that over as well as Bangladesh go two down.

BAN Live Score: 2/2 (2)

Wicket! There's an early breakthrough for India and it's Mohammed Shami who strikes in the first over of the match. He has picked up from where he left in the ODI World Cup 2023. Sarkar edged it towards keeper and KL Rahul made no mistake with the catch. Sarkar departs for 0.

BAN Live Score: 1/1 (1)

India: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Shami, Kuldeep Yadav.

Bangladesh: Tanzid Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto(c), Towhid Hridoy, Mushfiqur Rahim(w), Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Jaker Ali, Rishad Hossain, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman.

India have made two changes from their previous ODI against England earlier this month, bringing in Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja in place of Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakaravarthy. Bangladesh have fielded three seamers and two spinners and have opted for Tanzim Hasan ahead of much-talked about Nahid Rana in the pace department.

Najmul Hossain-led Bangladesh on Thursday won the toss and elected to bat first against India. Both the teams are kicking off their Champions Trophy campaign today.

Virat Kohli has 13,963 runs to his name in 297 ODI matches played so far. He is 37 runs from breaking Sachin Tendulkar's world record of being the fastest to 14,000 runs in ODIs.

Needs 12 runs to become the fourth Indian and overall 10th batter in the world to score 11,000 ODI runs.

Could become the first batter in the world to score centuries in multiple editions of the ODI World Cup and Champions Trophy against Bangladesh.

One century away from 50 international hundreds.

Needs one win to become Indian captain with 100 international victories.

"There will be times where you will miss certain players, but I think there is enough quality, enough depth, enough experience in the team for us to come here quite confident and be confident about what we want to do here."

After a long tussle regarding India's travel issue to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the PCB, BCCI and ICC came onto the same page and agreed on the hybrid model. It means India will play all of their matches in Dubai whereas the rest of the tournament will be played in Pakistan.

India will be without their senior pacer Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC Champions Trophy as he couldn't make it to the final 15-member squad due to a back issue. His absence understandably was a major blow for the Men in Blue but the team has still set eyes on the title considering their remarkable record in the ODI format.

In the pace department, India will have the services of Mohammed Shami back as the veteran was out for more than a year due to injury. He will be leading India's bowling attack alongside Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya.

India will be looking for the best possible start in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in order to remain the leading side in Group A which also features their arch-rivals Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. The tournament will be a hugely crucial one for star Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The duo has had a tough few months and has been at the centre of criticism due to their batting performances lately across formats. Their performances could also leave a huge impact on their future with the Indian team with their eyes already on the ODI World Cup 2027.

The tournament could turn out to be a decisive one for the future of Gautam Gambhir as India's head coach. It was reported that a big decision could be taken if India doesn't perform well in the tournament.
