India vs England 4th Test: India defeated England by five wickets in the fourth Test at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Monday, February 26.

As Dhruv Jurel hit the winning runs on the fourth day of the match, India took a 3-1 lead and clinched the five-match series with a match remaining.

Jurel and Shubman Gill made sure of no more hiccups as they stitched a 72-run partnership for the sixth wicket to help the hosts finish on the right side despite a disappointing performance with the bat earlier in the day.

While Gill scored his half-century at the crucial juncture, scoring an unbeaten 52 off 124 balls, Jurel came up with yet another incredible contribution of 39 runs in 77 balls.

The victory is India's record 17th Test series win at home whereas England suffered their first Test series defeat under Ben Stokes' captaincy.

India resumed their run chase of 192 runs on the fourth day with 40/0 on the board and skipper Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease.

The duo did well to add 44 more runs to the total in the initial phase of the day before India lost the first wicket as Joe Root dismissed Jaiswal for 37.

Rohit, on the other hand, looked comfortable and went on to reach his half-century but England's spinners looked tough to pick with enough assistance from the pitch.

Rohit, who was batting on 55, while looking to step down against Tom Hartley was easily stumped by Ben Foakes to give India the second blow.

England bounced back in the game brilliantly and picked up the wickets of Rajat Patidar (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (4) in quick succession.

Shaoib Bashir was looking dangerous and added a third wicket to his tally when removed Sarfaraz Khan on the very first ball before Jurel survived the hat-trick ball.

The moment Gill was joined by Jurel, he looked a bit calm at the crease, having struggled against spin in the early hours of the day as the duo started playing the risk-free game.

Earlier in the match, India bowled England out for just 145 in their second innings with the help of Ravichandran Ashwin's 35th five-wicket haul and Kuldeep Yadav's four wickets.

Jaiswal's half-century and a remarkable partnership between Jurel and Kuldeep for the eighth wicket helped India reach 307 in reply to England's first-inning total.

After opting to bat first, England posted a total of 353 runs on the back of Joe Root's 31st Tes hundred and Ollie Robinson's maiden Test fifty.

This was the seventh time that India managed to win a Test series despite going 0-1 down.

England had kicked off the series brilliantly with a victory in the first Test at Hyderabad before the hosts bounced back to emerge victorious in Vizag, Rajkot, and Ranchi.

The fifth and final Test of the series is scheduled to take place at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala and will commence on Thursday, March 7.
