IND vs ENG Highlights, 4th Test Day 1: England Score 302/7 At Stumps On First Day

"I wasn't nervous, had spoken with my coaches, so I wasn't tense ahead of the game. I don't know how it happened, but I used to take every game as my last game and tried my best. Bumrah bahi advised me to drag the length back slightly (in international cricket), that's exactly what I did. That'll be the end of the first day of the third Test. England have done well to have managed to score 302/7 with Joe Root smashing his 31st Test century. Root remains unbeaten on 106 whereas Ollie Robinson is batting on 31. The duo stitched a 57-run stand for the eighth wicket. India were off to a brilliant start as the debutant picked up three wickets to make it a struggle for the visitors who were 112/5 at once but did well with the recovery.

The tea has been taken on the first day of the fourth Test here in Ranchi. England managed to bounce back after losing early wickets. India didn't get any success in the second session with the visitors scoring 86 runs. Joe Root went on to score his fifty and remains unbeaten on 67 whereas Ben Foakes is batting on 28.

England spinner Rehan Ahmed has been ruled out of the ongoing Test series as the youngster will return home due to personal reasons. England have confirmed that the spinner will not return for the fifth Test in Dharamsala and the team will not name replacement for him. 

"Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons. He will not be returning to India and we will not be naming a replacement," England and Wales Cricket Board wrote on X. 

"We would have batted first as well. Looks a bit dry and has some cracks, but that's the nature of the pitch here. The last two games were good for us and we'll have to play in the same way. Proud of a lot of young guys in the squad, they've taken the responsibility and have taken the challenge head-on. They are confident in their skills, moving forward it's a good thing. One change with Akash Deep making his debut," Rohit Sharma said at the toss.

"We will bat first. 2-1 down, a bit more important in the context of the series, but every game is important. The first one hour will give us an idea about how the pitch will play, but it was always going to be a bat-first track. My bowling is coming off well, it's been a long time coming. I'm happy with the way we've operated throughout the series and looking forward to more of the same," Stokes said at the toss. 

England captain Ben Stokes has won the toss and opted to bat first in the fourth Test in Ranchi.

It looks like a dry river bed with a lot of cracks, the ball could explode and turn from certain areas and it could happen very early into the match. The captain winning the toss will opt to bat first. But the turn could be slow and low, some shots could be tough, but this ain't a rank turner, opine Deep Dasgupta and Graeme Swann, in their pitch report.

India pacer Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the fourth Test in Ranchi to manage senior paceman's workload ahead of the hectic white-ball schedule including IPL 2024 and the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA in June. 

Bengal pacer Akash Deep will make his Test debut for India today, becoming the fourth player to join the Test playing club in the series. Akash received his maiden Test cap from head coach Rahul Dravid in a team huddle just before the toss in Ranchi. He is the 313th player to play Test cricket for India.

England have announced their playing 11 on Thursday and made two changes as Ollie Robinson and Shoaib Bashir come in for Mark Wood and Rehan Ahmed respectively as visitors eye bounce back after a crumbling defeat in Rajkot.
