IND vs NZ T20 World Cup 2026 Final: New Zealand has exceeded expectations in the T20 World Cup 2026, qualifying for the final under captain Mitchell Santner. The Black Caps will face reigning champions India in Ahmedabad on Sunday, having consistently overcome pressure and odds to reach the summit clash.
The Mitchell Santner-led side had put up their best performance during the semifinal against South Africa. While facing a formidable Proteas at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, they had put up a brilliant performance. Matt Henry (2/34), Cole McConchie (2/9), and Rachin Ravindra (2/29) had helped the team skittle South Africa out for just 169 runs. While chasing New Zealand's star openers Tim Seifert (58) and Finn Allen (100*) took the Proteas bowlers to the cleaners and helped the team win the match by nine wickets.
This win not only helped them qualify for yet another final of an ICC event but also avenged the group-stage loss against the same opponent in Ahmedabad, when the Black Caps were looking for their best performance.

Winning Start
During their tournament opener, the New Zealand bowlers struggled against Afghanistan batters, who posted a target of 182 runs at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, even though Matt Henry and captain Santner were quite economical. And then Seifert (65) and star all-rounder Glenn Phillips (42) had helped the team win the match by five wickets.
Their batting, yet again, proved their strength in their group stage match against the UAE, as they chased the target of 174 runs quite comprehensively on the back of Seifert and Allen's innings of 89 and 84.
Quick Comeback
After losing their group-stage match to the Aiden Markram-led side by seven wickets, they were heavily criticised. Then they made a brilliant comeback in their last group-stage match, defeating Canada, and qualified for the Super 8s.

A Washout
The Mitchell Santner-led side then travelled to Sri Lanka for the next round after playing their group stage matches in Chennai and Ahmedabad. Their stint in the Super 8s started with an abandoned match against the Salman Ali Agha-led side in Colombo. Due to the washout, they needed to beat Sri Lanka in their next match to stay alive in the race for the semifinals, and they did, with captain Santner leading the team from the front.
An Emphatic Win
Santner scored a match-winning knock of 47 runs off 26 balls and helped the team bounce back after reeling at 84/6 and posted a respectable target of 168 runs. Matt Henry (2/3) spearheaded the bowling attack with the help of the new ball, and Ravindra (4/27) rattled Sri Lanka's batting attack and helped the team skittle them out for 107 runs.
The 61-run win helped the Black Caps qualify for the semifinal, even though they lost to England in their last Super 8s match, and the Men in Green also couldn't defeat Sri Lanka by a large margin.
They were restricted to 159 runs during their last Super 8s match against England. They first made England totter at 117/6 till the 17th over, but then gave away 44 runs in the last 21 balls.
If the Kiwis beat the Suryakumar Yadav-led side on Sunday, they will win their first T20 World Cup title.
