United States beat Pakistan in Super Over

Canada beat Ireland by 12 runs

In the four matches against India, Babar has scored just 92 runs at an average of 30.66 and a strike rate of 127.77.

He played a match-winning knock of 68 runs in his first T20I outing against India in October 2021 and ended up with just 10 and 14 in the next two innings.

Babar scored a duck in his last T20I outing against India at the MCG in T20 World Cup 2022.

India took a sigh of relief when skipper Rohit Sharma smashed a fifty in the opening match against Ireland. He was a bit out of touch and had a disappointing run with the bat in the IPL 2024.

Hardik Pandya's performance stood up in the first match as he put up a remarkable effort with the ball and his contribution in both aspectes will be key going forward in the tournament.

Bowling has been brilliant so far which is expected to create problems for Pakistani batters.

Rishabh Pant's return has been phenomenal so far and has shown glimpses of his brilliance in both the warm-up match and the first match.

He remained unbeaten 36 runs and ended up finishing the match in an emphatic fashion.

Pakistan could face an early exit from the competition as they stand with a desperate need to win their all-important match against arch-rivals India. India and Canada have a win each under their belt whereas the USA stand at the top with two victories. A win for India and a similar result further for the USA or Canada will put an end to Pakistan's chances of making it to the Super Eight.

They lost their first match against the USA and are currently placed fourth in the Group A standings.

Virat Kohli is going to be the most important wicket for Pakistan and Babar Azam-led side will be looking to dismiss him as soon as possible considering his record against them.

Kohli has played 10 T20I matches against Pakistan and has scored 488 runs at an average of 81.33.

The 35-year-old has smashed stunning 308 runs from 5 matches at an average of 308 and a strike-rate of 132.75 with 4 half-centuries to his name.

Fans have already started gearing up for this big T20 World Cup 2024 clash between India and Pakistan at New York, while some have also been pictured along side cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Ravi Shastri. The anticipation for an exciting matchup has already reached sky high and the strength of the fans set to be in attendance at New York will only serve as an example of the popularity of this historic fixture.

“New York is not our home ground. We have played two matches here but we don’t have much awareness about its nature. It behaves differently on different days, so even the curator is confused. So, you can imagine the kind of thinking we need to put in. We don’t know on which pitch we are playing (against Pakistan), so whoever plays better cricket will win the match,” Rohit told reporters in the pre-match press conference.

Pakistan coach Gary Kirsten opines the side's batters need to play with courage on the tricky New York pitch during the high-value T20 World Cup clash against India on June 9. While the pitch at the Nassau County International cricket stadium in New York has been hard for batters to decode, it also treated Pakistan's batters the same way during their tournament opener against the USA.

"We have to forget about the last couple of days and just move forward, that's the only way you can deal with life. Results are results (and they) take care of themselves...We were going to go out there and make sure we do the best that we can with our skill sets and how we can put pressure on the opposition,” Kirsten told reporters in the pre-match press conference.

Unlike India, their arch-rivals Pakistan have not had the best of starts to their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign. The Babar Azam-led side were handed a heavy defeat in their tournament opener against hosts the USA from a thrilling Super over. Pakistan's star players like Babar, Fakhar and Amir failed to show their usual brilliance in the clash despite walking into the fixture as clear favourites. Although the head-to-head stats and recent momentum are both against Pakistan's favour, a high-value World Cup clash can be very unpredictable, to say the least.

After clinching a rather comfortable win against Ireland in their 2024 T20 World Cup opener, Rohit Sharma-led India will be all-geared up for this big Pakistan challenge which has tested the side multiple times in the recent past. The side has kept their training and preparations on full gear, with experienced minds like that of Kohli and Rohit fully aware of the vitality of the fixture.

A rainy morning is predicted in New York between 9 am and 11 am during the start of the India vs Pakistan contest. There might be a slight delay in the game.

A defeat to USA has exacerbated Pakistan's problem by a fair margin even before their tournament had won shape. A harrowing loss followed by a clash with India has offered limited time for a turnaround but thats the route that has usually found the best out of Pakistan's competitive edge. But do they have the batting to make amends.

With Rizwan and Babar at the top and a shot of underwhelming bats to follow, Pakistan's batting has lacked an X-factor in the format. Left-hander Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed offer some power. However, a slew of anchors above them in the order has riddled Pakistan's T20I batting with so many questions heading into a must-win contest.

Matches played: 7

India won: 5

Pakistan won: 1

Tied: 1 (India won by bowl-out)

Last result: India won by 4 wickets (Melbourne 2022)

Rohit Sharma will face Mohammed Amir in a T20I for the first time since 2016 T20 World Cup. He endured a torrid run against the left-armer then but has since remarked that the Pak left-armer was just an-ordinary bowler before a few more ODI skirmishes.

Rohit vs Amir-innings 2, Runs 1, dismissals 2, SR: 14.28, Averageg 0.50

Rohit had a similar struggle against Shaheen Afridi in the 2021 T20 World Cup when the left-armer snapped him for a golden duck. Rohit has since triumphed Shaheen in ODIs as seen during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Rohit vs Shaheen- innings 2, runs-4, dismissal 1, SR:66.66, Average:4.00
