Pakistan cricket team suffered a humiliating seven-wicket defeat against the arch-rivals India at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Babar Azam-led side once again proved to be below average in some instances as they failed to hamper India's winning streak in the marquee tournament.

From 154/2 to getting all out for 191 in 42.5 overs wasn't a performance neither the players had expected nor the fans had rooted for them to display in the all-important clash.

While the target to defend was not big, the Pakistan team lost inside 31 overs, with their attack managing to take just three Indian wickets.

Their premium bowler Shaheen Afridi managed to take two wickets as he dismissed Shubman Gill and skipper Rohit Sharma.

By the time he dismissed Rohit, the star opener had almost done his job as India’s victory had started to appear as a foregone conclusion.

Former India cricket and famous commentator Ravi Shastri put up his analysis on Shaheen during the match when Rohit was batting around 80s.

Shastri was heard totally against overhyping Shaheen as he said that the left-arm pacer is not Wasim Akram and is nothing extraordinary.

“He is a good bowler, he can claim a wicket with the new ball. But you have to admit it, if Naseem Shah is not playing and the quality of Pakistan’s spin bowling is like this," Shastri said in the commentary during the match.

"Shaheen is not Wasim Akram. He’s a good bowler, but there is no need for us to hype him so highly as well. If a player is simply a good player, we should restrict our praise to saying he is a good player. He’s not a great player, we need to admit that),” he added while criticising Shaheen.

Earlier, it was Shastri who pointed out that the battle between Shaheen and Indian openers will be dictating the high-voltage contest in Ahmedabad.

“I think Shaheen Shah Afridi against the Indian openers (is important),” Shastri said.

“It’s a given that that’s going to be the test, that it’s going to be the challenge. Whoever wins that will go a long way towards dictating terms in that game.”

Shastri also said that if one of Rohit or Virat Kohli gets a hundred, then a big score for India could be on the cards.

"I think at the top, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be key. If they both get going and one gets a hundred, I emphasise that 300, 320, 330, that is very much a possibility," he added.

With the third consecutive win in the tournament, the Men in Blue grabbed the top spot with six points to their name, having defeated strong teams like Australia and Pakistan early in the tournament.
