Jasprit Bumrah and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer are set to miss the ODI assignment as they will be representing India at the Asian Games 2026.

Asian Games Schedule Creates Unusual Situation

The Asian Games schedule has created a rather unusual situation for Indian cricket. India will begin their campaign against hosts Japan on September 22 before playing the quarter-final on September 28.

If India make it to the semi-final on October 1 and then qualify for the gold medal match on October 3, Iyer and the other members of the Asian Games squad could find themselves playing on the same day as India’s ODI team.

The third and final ODI between India and West Indies is scheduled to take place in New Chandigarh on October 3.

This could mean that two Indian teams will be playing on the same day in two different countries.

Why Could Hardik Pandya Miss The West Indies Series?

Hardik Pandya is another big name who could miss the ODI series against West Indies.

The star all-rounder is still recovering from the injury he suffered during the Indian Premier League. He is currently at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru as he continues his rehabilitation.

Pandya has been included in the India A squad for the upcoming one-day series, which starts on October 6. However, his participation in that series is also subject to his fitness.

His inclusion in the India A squad suggests that Pandya may not be ready in time for the West Indies ODIs, which begin on September 27.

Who Could Replace Hardik?

Nitish Kumar Reddy could have been an option to replace Pandya in the ODI squad. However, he is also expected to be involved with India’s Asian Games campaign.

That could leave the selectors with another selection call to make ahead of the West Indies series.
