IND vs AFG: The BCCI has revealed a 15-member team for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. Shubman Gill will be leading the team from the front along with Shreyas Iyer being the vice-captain and the three veteran batters-Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul retaning their position. Jasprit Bumrah has been dropped from the squad owing to workload management.
Devajit Saikia, who is the secretary of BCCI, revealed during the press conference that Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya's availability will depend on their fitness clearance. Rohit had sustained a hamstring injury in IPL 2026 whereas Hardik has suffered from back spasms but now both these players have joined the Mumbai-based franchise.
India's ODI team has underwent major changes from what it was during the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year. Star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant has been snubbed, whereas Ravindra Jadeja has been given some rest, Harshit Ran has been ruled out owing to knee injury, whereas Yashasvi Jaiswal and Mohammed Siraj too have been snubbed.
Ishan Kishan has replaced Rishabh Pant in the squad, whereas three new players have got their maiden India call-ups- LSG fast bowler Prince Yadav, PBKS' Gurnoor Brar and Vidharbha's Harsh Dubey.
This ODI series will start just one week post IPL 2026 ends. These changes in India's ODI team reveal that the management wants to look beyond some veteran players like Jadeja and are planning to give chances to youngsters before the 2027 ODI World Cup.
