Delhi Capitals SWOT Breakdown: After an inconsistent season last year, affected by top-order instability and poor bowling, Delhi Capitals took advantage of the mini auction to address their weaknesses and bounce back brilliantly in the upcoming season. They entered the mini auction with a whopping purse of Rs 21.8 crore and a pretty decent playing XI. The Delhi-based franchise let go of a few players who couldn't perform consistently, such as Faf Du Plessis and Jake Fraser-McGurk, both of whom played as openers during IPL 2025.

The Axar Patel-led side also released players like Donovan Fereira, Mohit Sharma, and Darshan Nalkande to free up more money in their purse and space in the team. During the auction, they roped in David Miller and Ben Duckett at their base prices, solving their finisher and opening problems at the minimum cost. They also bought Pathum Nissanka and Prithwi Shaw as openers.

One of their biggest buys was all-rounder Auqib Nabi Dhar for a whopping Rs 8.4 crore. They also bolstered their side by including players like Lungi Ngidi and Kyle Jamieson. They retained their core players, including KL Rahul, Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mitchell Starc. At the same time, they also traded Nitish Rana from RR.

Strengths

Last season, Delhi Capitals struggled with their opening combinations, using eight different pairs. This year, with Ben Duckett, Pathum Nissanka, and Prithwi Shaw, DC aims for a stable and explosive start.

They also have a formidable middle order. David Miller's inclusion, along with Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma, will address their late-over batting collapse, which was evident last season. It should be noted here that their bowling attack is their strongest department. Kuldeep, Starc, and T Natarajan will make a brilliant wicket-taking combination. At the same time, Auqib Nabi Dhar will be their one player to watch out for.

Weaknesses

Although they do have better options as openers this year, there is no clarity on who their opening choice will be. Duckett, Nissanka, and Shaw can all face the wrath if the results don't go in their favour. Their fast-bowling lineup largely depends on overseas pacers. If either Starc or Ngidi isn't available or becomes inconsistent, they might struggle, just as they did last year when Mukesh Kumar struggled during the death overs. The other problem is the price tag on Auqib Nabi Dhar. Since he was roped in for a whopping amount of Rs 8.4 crore, all eyes will be on this uncapped player. If he fails to repeat his heroics in domestic tournaments, then the Delhi-based franchise would struggle with balance issues.

Opportunities

The upcoming IPL season will give DC a clear chance to turn potential into consistency. The stability of the Indian core will help the side build combinations rather than make changes to the playing XI in every match. KL Rahul's flexibility will be a talking point. He might open or bat at No. 3, and that's one thing they lacked last year. Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, and Ashutosh will be assigned different roles to help the team gain clarity. Auqib Nabi Dhar can become a reliable power play enforcer. He had shown his bowling prowess during the domestic tournaments last year.

Threats

One of the biggest threats they will face this year is their ability to execute under pressure. In the last season, they lost matches due to poor death bowling and batting collapses. Over-reliance on foreign players will affect their balance if they are injured. If the results in the first few matches don't go in their favour, they will fall back on their old strategy of making frequent changes to their playing XI, as happened to them last season.
