Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya and ace fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah are missing action as the team takes on Chennai Super Kings on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.

In Hardik's absence, Suryakumar Yadav has taken on the mantle of leading the Mumbai-based franchise against the Chennai team, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Pandya's absence from the match is due to a one-match suspension carried over from the 2024 IPL season. On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah has not yet joined the Mumbai Indians squad for the 2025 season, rendering him unavailable for selection.

Bumrah has been out of action because of a lower back injury, and his last competitive match was on January 5, 2025, against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Bumrah is currently rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is likely to join the Mumbai Indians setup in the next two or three weeks, fitness permitting.

Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikdak won the toss and elected to field first against Mumbai Indians. In a notable development, Afghanistan spinner Noor Ahmad made his highly-anticipated IPL debut for CSK, after being acquired by the franchise for a hefty sum of Rs 10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
