India pacer Arshdeep Singh is on the verge of achieving a major milestone in T20 international cricket. The left-arm fast bowler needs just two more wickets to become the first Indian to take 150 wickets in the shortest format of the game.
Arshdeep will have a chance to reach the landmark when India face New Zealand in the third T20I of the five-match series at Wellington’s Hnry Stadium on Tuesday.
The visitors have made a strong start to the series, winning the first two matches to take a 2-0 lead. With India looking to seal the series, Arshdeep will be keen to make an impact with the ball and add another milestone to his growing list of achievements.
Arshdeep Singh’s T20I Records And Stats
Arshdeep has taken 148 wickets in 101 T20I matches at an average of 20.41 and an economy rate of 8.65. His tally also includes a five-wicket haul.
The left-arm pacer is currently India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is and sits 10th on the all-time list. Two more wickets would take him to the 150-wicket mark, making him the first Indian bowler to reach the milestone in T20Is.
He has also made a decent start to the ongoing series against New Zealand, picking up three wickets across the opening two matches.
From England Debut To Becoming India’s Leading T20I Wicket-Taker
Arshdeep made his international debut during India’s tour of England in 2022. He quickly made his presence felt with his ability to bowl accurate yorkers, handle pressure in the death overs and generate good pace.
He followed up his debut with an impressive series against the West Indies, taking seven wickets in five matches. Those performances helped him earn a place in India’s squad for the 2022 Asia Cup.
Arshdeep was one of India’s most effective bowlers in the tournament, finishing with more than four wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the only other Indian bowler to cross that mark.
The pacer has since become an important part of India’s T20I setup, particularly in the closing overs, where his yorkers and variations have helped him deliver in pressure situations.
India Look To Seal T20I Series Against New Zealand
India will aim to wrap up the five-match T20I series when they meet New Zealand in the third match at Wellington’s Hnry Stadium on Tuesday.
The visitors lead the series 2-0 after winning the first two games and will be eager to maintain their momentum. A victory in the third T20I would give India an unassailable lead in the series.
India have also managed to take control despite the absence of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Hardik Pandya.
