Cricketing legend MS Dhoni dropped a fresh hint about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), saying he will take a call on playing another season before December this year. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend has remained at the centre of retirement talks, with fans waiting to know if he will return for IPL 2027.

Dhoni missed IPL 2026 due to calf issues, while CSK also failed to qualify for the playoffs. His fitness and future with the franchise have since been major talking points.

Speaking at a healthcare event in Bengaluru, the former India captain said he would first have to undergo medical tests before deciding whether his body could handle another season of the IPL.

Dhoni Puts The Pressure On Doctors

Known for his sense of humour, Dhoni had a light-hearted response when discussing his future. The 45-year-old joked that the doctors would have to ensure he remained fit enough to take on the demands of another IPL season.

“And if I am not, then, you know, you will have to make sure that you do everything right with me and make sure that this old vintage vehicle is running well on the road. So all the pressure is on them,” he added.

While Dhoni has not confirmed his participation in IPL 2027, his comments suggest that a decision could come before the end of the year. His fitness is likely to play a key role in determining whether he returns to the field for another season in CSK colours.

CSK Hopeful Of Dhoni’s Return For IPL 2027

Chennai Super Kings are also hopeful that Dhoni will continue playing in IPL 2027. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently said that the final decision rests with the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, although he believes Dhoni could return for another season.

“It’s a question you need to ask him. I also have to ask him. He informs us of his decision when he arrives in Chennai. I have a feeling that the chances of him continuing to play for CSK are there. He is still a player, you know,” Viswanathan said.

Dhoni has been a key figure at CSK for years, leading the franchise to five IPL titles. His possible return would be a major boost for the team, but fans will have to wait for his final decision.

CSK Start Rebuilding For IPL 2027

CSK are also preparing for a new beginning after a disappointing IPL 2026 season. The franchise has also changed its coaching setup, with Stephen Fleming exiting as head coach and Zaheer Khan taking over.
