Cricket Australia (CA) has announced a 13-player squad for the upcoming two-Test home series against Bangladesh, which begins on August 13. The biggest boost for the hosts is the return of captain Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, with all three back after recovering from injuries.

Cummins played only one Test during the 2025-26 Ashes because of fitness issues, while Hazlewood missed the entire series. Lyon also sat out the final two Ashes Tests after suffering a hamstring injury.

Cummins and Hazlewood were also unavailable for Australia’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign. Both later returned to competitive cricket in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing their respective franchises. Lyon, meanwhile, is set to play his first competitive match since the Adelaide Test last summer.

Key changes in the squad

With Usman Khawaja retiring from Test cricket, Travis Head has been moved to the top of the order and is expected to open alongside Jake Weatherald.

Michael Neser and Brendan Doggett, who featured during the Ashes, have missed out following the return of Australia’s first-choice fast bowlers. Neser impressed with 15 wickets in three Tests, while Doggett picked up seven wickets in two matches.

Off-spinner Todd Murphy has also not been included in the squad. However, Neser, Doggett and Murphy have continued training with the team and will be available if any injury replacements are required during the series.

Australia vs Bangladesh Test series schedule

The opening Test will be played at Marrara Cricket Ground in Darwin from August 13. The second and final Test will begin on August 22 at Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

Australia vs Bangladesh head-to-head in Tests

Bangladesh are touring Australia for a Test series for the first time in 23 years. The two sides have met six times in Test cricket, with Australia winning five matches, including three by an innings.

Bangladesh’s only Test victory over Australia came in Mirpur in 2017, where they secured a memorable 20-run win.

WTC standings

Australia currently lead the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 table after winning seven of their first eight Tests.

Bangladesh are fourth in the standings with two wins, one draw and one defeat from four matches.
