After India's debacle in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli's Test future appears to be at a crossroads after a disappointing outing with the bat.
After a subpar outing in Australia, India’s dipping performances in Test cricket have added more woes and questions over Rohit's captaincy position.
As per the Hindustan Times, with Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is expected to hold its first meeting on the concerned matter on Sunday's Special General Meeting, the board's new secretary, Devajit Saikia has asked chief selector Ajit Agarkar to deliver "strict message" on unravelling the big dilemma around the senior players future and "choosing a new team."
The question of senior players' place in the team rose when they left for Australia after a series whitewash against New Zealand at home. Now, Rohit and Virat's diminished form in the recently concluded series has called for immediate action.
Kohli did show flashes of brilliance when he smashed a stunning ton in the Perth Test but only managed to gather just 90 more runs in the remaining innings.
Meanwhile, Rohit, who missed the opening Test due to the birth of his son, scored just 31 runs in five innings, before opting out of the crucial fifth and final Test match in Sydney.
As Hindustan Times reported a former BCCI official in interaction with Dainik Jagran said he wants the board to send a strong message as he subtly hinted that out of form Kohli and Rohit should be dropped from the Test team, reminding that no player is bigger than the game.
"The message is going very bad. People can be sweet pawns on the internet but BCCI has to run cricket in the country and it should also be seen running it. Now there is a need to give such a strong message that no player should consider himself bigger than the game. Now there is a need to choose a new team. The selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar is of BCCI and the new secretary should call him, and also give a strict message," he said.
