India batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named captain of the West Zone team for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, while Mumbai all-rounder Shams Mulani has been appointed vice-captain.
The 15-member squad was announced on Monday by the West Zone selection committee, which Mumbai chief selector Rajesh Pawar heads. The tournament will return to its traditional zonal format for the 2026-27 domestic season.
West Zone will face North Zone in the second quarterfinal, which is scheduled to be played from August 23 to 26 at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. The tournament will feature five matches, with the final set to take place from September 6 to 10 at the same venue.

The squad includes several experienced domestic and international players. Prithvi Shaw, who switched from Mumbai to Maharashtra last year, has earned a place in the team. India batter Sarfaraz Khan and his younger brother Musheer Khan have also been selected.
Harvik Desai of Saurashtra and Gujarat's Urvil Patel have been picked as the two wicketkeepers in the squad. Harvik is the only player representing Saurashtra in the team.
India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who led West Zone in the previous edition, is also part of the squad. Mumbai has the biggest representation in the team with six players, including Shardul, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande.
