BBL 2026: Steve Smith and Babar Azam were involved in an awkward situation, even though the Sydney Sixers had beaten the Sydney Thunder by five wickets at BBL 2026. The first incident occurred in Thunder's innings, where both Babar and Smith were a part of a misjudged step. During the 16th over, Nic Maddinson had hit Ben Manenti directly at the wicket. Smith then was seen running from long-off, whereas Babar was standing at long-on. Smith tried to slow down, and Babar, too, failed to commit. The ball stopped near the boundary and was left confused.

This lack of clarity again happened on the next ball. Maddinson again bowled at the same area and forced Smith to dive. As Smith was about to throw, Babar tried to take over from him, but then hesitated as there was some uncertainty between the two.

But it was Smith's knock that took the team across the line. While chasing, things became intense for a while between them in the 11th over. When Babar had faced a lot of dot balls, Smith stopped from taking a single on the last ball and made sure that he was on the strike. He then chose Power Surge, which allows just two fielders outside the circle.

Babar was left annoyed by this decision, but Smith made his intent clear. While batting against Ryan Hadley, he had smashed four consecutive sixes and had scored 32 runs in that over, and that was the most.

This moment turned painful for Babar. Nathan McAndrew dismissed him on the first ball of the 13th over. He was visibly upset and was seen lashing out at the boundary ropes.

Smith maintained his sublime form and brought his hundred off just 41 balls. His innings helped the Sydney Sixers win the match.
