T20 World Cup 2026: The BCCI has finally reacted to Bangladesh's request to shift T20 World Cup matches from India and urged the ICC to shift their matches to Sri Lanka. There has been a rise in political tensions between India and Bangladesh after the BCCI told three-time IPL winners KKR to let go of Bangladesh's star fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman.

Since the last few days, a lot of Hindus have been killed in Bangladesh, which has led to the relations between these two countries getting strained. KKR was slammed heavily for buying Rahman at the auction, and that's why BCCI told them to let Rahman go, who was roped in for a whopping amount of Rs 9.20 cr.

After he was let go, both the government of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) interfered and urged the ICC to shift the mega event out of India owing to security issues. Both the ICC and BCB have sent emails, but no decisions have been taken yet, and there is not much time left as the mega event will begin next month.

In the ongoing tussle between ICC and BCB, Devajit Saikia, who is the secretary of BCCI, has revealed that they don't have anything much to say on this issue and that it's outside their domain, and ICC will take the final call.

“The meeting was about CoE and other cricketing matters. It's not our domain to talk about that (as the ICC has the final say on Bangladesh's participation in the T20 World Cup),” Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying to PTI.

Bangladesh's schedule in the T20 World Cup

The mega event will be held in India and Sri Lanka at eight places between February 7 and March. Bangladesh has been put in Group C alongwith teams like England, the West Indies, Nepal, and Italy.

Their first three matches against West Indies, England, and Italy will be held at the Eden Gardens, and the match against Nepal will be played at Wankhede Stadium.

The BCB had revealed that ICC had told them that they would do everything in their power to solve their issues.

"In its communication, the ICC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the full and uninterrupted participation of the Bangladesh team in the tournament. The ICC has conveyed its willingness to work closely with the BCB to address the concerns raised and has assured that the Board’s inputs will be welcomed and duly considered as part of the detailed security planning for the event," the statement released by BCB said.
