T20 World Cup 2026: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday confirmed the star middle-order batter Tilak Varma's return to the Indian setup as the BCCI officially announced the India A squad for the T20 World Cup warm-up matches.

The India A side will play T20 World Cup warm-up matches against the USA and Namibia.

Tilak has received formal clearance to resume competitive cricket after making a full recovery from surgery. Tilak Varma's formal clearance to resume competitive cricket has given a significant boost to India's T20 World Cup title defence campaign.

The star batter completed a rigorous rehabilitation programme at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.

The statement also suggested that Tilak would feature in at least one warm-up match before participating in the T20 World Cup.

"Tilak Varma will feature in one warm-up match before joining Team India for the T20 World Cup," BCCI said in the statement.

"Presenting India A squad for the warm-up matches ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. India A will play two warm-up matches against the USA and Namibia," BCCI wrote in their X post announcing India A squad.

India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav had provided a positive update on Tilak's fitness, confirming that the batter is making good progress.

"He has been shaping up well. I spoke to him yesterday; he has started batting, bowling, and fielding. We hope to have him back soon," Suryakumar said.
