IPL 2026: The teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has currently grabbed the attention of the Indian cricket fraternity, is on the verge of achieving another feat. As per reports, the youngster might make his team India debut. He is on the list of players who might feature in India's bilateral series against Ireland, along with others. The side will look like a second-string Indian team, as the Ajit Agarkar-led selectors are keen to test their bench strength.

"He is in contention for the Ireland tour, and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players," a BCCI source was quoted as saying to the Indian Express.

According to the publication, after his strong IPL performances, Vaibhav is close to being selected for India's series against Ireland. He is also under consideration for India's tour of Zimbabwe, both of which are scheduled for later this year.

Vaibhav, who has scripted history by breaking numerous records, began his stint during IPL 2026 on a high note while representing Rajasthan Royals. He had smashed a match-winning knock of 78 runs against the Rajat Patidar-led side, and then scored a brilliant knock of 52 runs off 17 balls against CSK, and then had scored a gritty knock of 39 runs off 14 balls against the Hardik Pandya-led side, which resulted in ex-cricketers and experts pushing for him to get selected in the Indian national team.

Arun Dhumal, the IPL chairman, has emphasized that Vaibhav should become the country's youngest debutant and break Sachin Tendulkar's and Shafali Verma's records.

"What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi this @IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India @BCCI as the youngest, given his performances. You rarely get the chance to pick up someone so talented and sooooo young too. Certainly deserves his name to be recorded as the youngest debutant for India," Arun Dhumal has written on his official X account.

Former Indian cricketers like Irfan Pathan and Anil Kumble have also highlighted that Vaibhav is ready to represent the senior Indian team.

Till now, Tendulkar has been the youngest Indian player to make his international debut at 16. At the same time, Shafali Varma holds the record for making her international debut at just 15 years of age.

The Men in Blue will face England after the bilateral series against Ireland, which will feature a five-match T20I and a three-match ODI series later this year. The selectors will also be picking the senior Indian players for the series against England.
