India’s teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi dedicated his first T20I half-century to his family, coaches and everyone who stood by him during the highs and lows of his cricket journey.
The 15-year-old opener smashed a stunning 18-ball fifty against Zimbabwe in the first T20I at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday. His explosive knock laid the foundation for India’s comfortable seven-wicket victory.
“If you play an innings in the starting phase of your career, then the confidence grows manyfold for the next match. I felt like I was in my zone and backed my strengths,” Sooryavanshi told BCCI.TV.
After bringing up his half-century, the youngster celebrated by making a heart gesture. He later shared that it was a special message for his mother.
Zimbabwe is a familiar hunting ground for Sooryavanshi. Earlier this year, he was part of India’s Under-19 team that lifted the World Cup in the country. He played two memorable knocks at the same venue, scoring 68 against Afghanistan in the semi-final and a brilliant 175 against England in the final to help India win the title.
“I like the vibe here. There are some grounds where you like scoring runs, maybe that’s the case here. I’m not taking anything for granted. I’m trying to give my best anywhere I play and contribute to the team,” Sooryavanshi said.
