Delhi Capitals vs Gujarat Giants, WPL 2026: Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been penalised and fined for maintaining the slow-over rate during their match against the Gujarat Giants at the BCA Stadium in Kotambi on Tuesday. Gujarat Giants defeated the Delhi Capitals by 3 runs in the thrilling contest and jumped to the second spot in the WPL 2026 standings.
As it was her first offence of the season under the Women’s Premier League’s Code of Conduct for minimum over-rate violations, the star batter Jemimah was fined Rs 12 lakh. After a promising run of form midway through the tournament, the Delhi Capitals have lost momentum. On the back of impactful efforts with the ball from Sophie Devine and Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Gujarat have inched closer to the knockout qualification.
Devine took a couple of wickets to defend nine runs in the final over as the DC were restricted to 171/8 in 20 overs.

Sent in to bat, veteran Australian wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney scored an impressive half-century, and her 58 off 46 balls helped the Gujarat Giants reach a challenging total of 174/9 in their 20 overs. Anushka Sharma produced a contribution of 39 runs off 25 deliveries. Chasing the target, Delhi Capitals got off to a strong start, reaching 16 in the first two overs, with Shafali Verma contributing 14 off 10 balls. Shafali's innings was cut short by left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad in the third over.

Delhi Capitals suffered a second blow soon after, as Lizelle Lee struggled for 11 off 20 balls before offering a simple catch to Ashleigh Gardner at mid-on off Sophie Devine's bowling. The recovery was made in between as Jemimah Rodrigues and Laura Wolvaardt stitched a 31-run stand for the third wicket. However, the big breakthrough was provided by Sophie Devine, who dismissed Jemimah for 16 runs in the 11th over.
Delhi Capitals kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with Marizanne Kapp (0) and Chinelle Henry departing cheaply. However, Niki Prasad came in and made an impact immediately, scoring 47 off 24 balls and hitting boundaries to keep DC in the hunt. She was well supported by Sneh Rana, who made a crucial contribution of 29 runs in 15 balls.
The duo stitched a 70-run partnership for the seventh wicket and took their team closer to victory, but fell short in the end as they both were dismissed in the final over.
