In a move aimed at boosting festive season activities, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will now allow organisers of socio-cultural and religious events to use a larger portion of allotted land for recreational purposes while also reducing the security deposit rates.

As per the directives issued by Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, the DDA will permit organisers to use 40 per cent of the allotted land for recreational facilities, up from the earlier 25 per cent. The security deposit has also been lowered from Rs 20 to Rs 15 per square metre.

Importantly, these relaxations will apply not just to Ramlila events but also to festivals such as Durga Puja, Chhath Puja, Lohri, Ganeshotsav, Jagannath Rath Yatra, and Pongal.

The decision will allow organisers to set up additional attractions like swings, joyrides, game stalls, and food courts that draw large crowds during fairs and festivals. However, the LG has directed that organisers must ensure smooth crowd and traffic management, with proper coordination with local authorities and police.
