Vande Bharat Update:  In a move to integrate speed with affordability, Indian Railways is expected to launch India’s first Vande Bharat Sleeper train in September. Earlier this month, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the Vande Bharat Sleeper train will be launched soon.

The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed to revolutionise long and medium-distance travel across the country with high-speed, cutting-edge technology and affordability.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Launch Date & Current Status

Speaking at an event in Gujarat’s Bhavnagar, Vaishnaw said, “Vande Sleeper is coming very soon – in September.” However, the exact date of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train launch has not been announced.

In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha on July 25, 2025, Vaishnaw said that the first rake of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is currently undergoing commissioning and is expected to be launched soon. “The first prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper trainset has already been manufactured. Based on the extensive field trials and the experience gained therein, the first rake of the Vande Bharat sleeper train is undergoing commissioning,” he said.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Route

The Railway Board has not yet announced the route of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train. The final route and timetable will be shared by the Railway Board, following which the fare will be announced.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Features

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is equipped with modern facilities including an integrated reading light with USB charging provision, public announcement and visual information systems, inside display panels and security cameras, modular pantries, and special berths and toilets for differently-abled passengers. In addition to this, the first AC car features hot water showers, aiming to improve passenger comfort and train travel experience.

Vande Bharat Sleeper Train Speed

The Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is designed to run at a maximum speed of 180 kmph. The launch of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train is expected to elevate the long-distance travel experience for passengers.
