Delhi Pollution: Delhi began the New Year on a grim note as thick pollution and biting cold enveloped the city, with air quality remaining in the “very poor” category. The Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 371 at 9 am on Thursday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), as dense fog and low temperatures continued to grip the national capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi airport and several airlines issued passenger advisories, cautioning travellers about possible flight disruptions due to low visibility caused by fog across parts of northern India, including the capital.

At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, visibility stood at 600 metres under shallow fog conditions at 9 am, according to official data. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast an improvement to around 1,200 metres under moderate fog by 2.30 pm.

Delhi Weather 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a generally cloudy sky for Thursday, with the possibility of very light to light rain at isolated places. It has also warned of moderate fog at many locations and dense fog at isolated spots during the morning hours, along with cold day conditions in some areas.

Meanwhile, Delhi recorded its coldest December day in six years on Wednesday, ending 2025 on a biting note as the maximum temperature plunged to 14.2 degrees Celsius. According to IMD data, the last time the city experienced a lower maximum temperature was on December 31, 2019, when the mercury had dropped to 9.4 degrees Celsius.
